- Start building Canastas from the first turn — partial melds (3+ cards) on the table earn nothing until they reach 7
- Use Jokers and 2s (wild cards) strategically — save them for completing difficult sequences
- Monitor the discard pile: picking it up (when allowed) can give you the cards to complete multiple Canastas at once
- Communicate with your partner through what you discard — discard cards you don't need that your partner might signal wanting
- Time the dead hand pickup: pick it up when you're close to completing a Canasta, not when you still have many loose cards
- Prioritize Clean Canastas over Dirty ones — the point differential is significant
