Official UNO rules are simple, but most families play with house rules that add extra fun and chaos. Here are the most common variations.

Stacking (+2 and +4)

The most popular house rule: if a +2 is played on you, you can play another +2 to pass the draw to the next player (now +4). Chains can stack up indefinitely. Note: the official rules state you must draw — but stacking is so popular that Uno's creators have acknowledged it as a valid variant.

Jump-In Rule

If you have the exact same card (same color AND number) as the one just played, you can jump in and play it out of turn. Play then continues from your position.

7-0 Rule

When a 7 is played, the player swaps hands with any chosen opponent. When a 0 is played, all players pass their hands in the direction of play. This rule dramatically shakes up the game.

Progressive UNO

Similar to stacking — draw cards (Wild +4, Draw Two) can be countered by playing the same card, passing the penalty to the next player with the total accumulating.
