Block Dominoes is the simplest and most widely played domino variant — the foundation for understanding all other domino games.

Setup

Using a double-six set (28 tiles). Two players draw 7 tiles each; the remainder is the boneyard (not drawn from in Block). The player with the highest double starts, or any tile if no double is held.

Gameplay

Players alternate placing tiles so that touching ends match. If a player cannot play, they pass their turn. Since the boneyard is not drawn in Block, passing is mandatory when no play is available. The game ends when one player plays all their tiles, or when both players are blocked.

Scoring

The winner earns points equal to the total number of pips on the losing player's remaining tiles. In tournament play, games are played to 100 or 150 points total.

Blocked Game

If both players pass consecutively, the game is blocked. The player with fewer points in hand wins and scores the difference between their totals.
