Checkers (also known as Draughts) is a two-player strategy game played on an 8×8 board. Here are the complete rules you need to play.

Setup

Each player places 12 pieces on the dark squares of their three closest rows. Black moves first. All movement is on dark squares only.

How Pieces Move

Regular pieces move diagonally forward only, one square at a time. Pieces may only occupy dark squares.

Capturing

Capture an opponent's piece by jumping over it diagonally to the empty square beyond. Captures are mandatory — if you can capture, you must. Multiple captures in one turn are allowed and required if available.

Becoming a King

When your piece reaches the farthest row from your starting side, it becomes a King. Kings can move and capture diagonally in any direction. Place an extra piece on top to mark a King.

Winning

Win by capturing all opponent's pieces, or by leaving the opponent with no legal moves.
